Hi Folks! I'm about to do some routine maintenance on the CBR 125r (in this case an engine overhaul) so I thought I would post up a thread about it and make a 'new' blog too This summer, during Nitrous testing, I holed a piston (too much timing/not enough Octane). This was before I was blending 100 octane fuel. In fact, this was the reason I started blending 100 Octane fuel Anyway, instead of effecting a proper repair at the time, I elected to chuck in a used piston and rings that I had lying around. The reason for it was that the engine was going to be subjected to further abuse (testing) and there was no point in wrecking good parts. Fast forward to today, and most all of the testing has been completed, and the engine is now (finally) using a fair bit of oil. Bear in mind, I think it had at least 20K on it and it was very hard mileage. Many destructive Nitrous tests, Quite a bit of time at +13,500 RPM (actual) and now it's showing it's wear. I started off my maintenance with cleaning the fuel pump/sending unit assembly. The pick up screen on these units can get incredibly gross and unfortunately, you can't buy just the trainer. Attachment: P1010007-002.JPG [ 261.87 KiB | Viewed 3459 times ] And this...coming from a tank that is spotless and was coated, years ago, with POR15. Oddly enough, I also know that the local Chevron has had new tanks since that time....go figure. If mine looks like this, I wonder what yours looks like I also made some changes to the way the ECU handles the fuel pump. It's not getting full power (guaranteed) and the pickup screen has been ultrasonically cleaned so there injector duty cycle should drop considerably. Once it's back up and running I'll be able to confirm my work. |
